If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.”

Tano Rea

Gaetano, known as Tano, has dedicated his career to the arts. He’s worked both as a performer and an artist. His work has also included costume and set design for music and drama productions.

Inspired by Opera

Tano started his career in the arts singing with Scottish Opera. The administrator of Scottish Opera, Peter Hemmings, saw some of Tano’s artwork, and commissioned him to create a foyer exhibition celebrating the company’s 10th anniversary.

From singer to artist

As a result of the Scottish Opera exhibition, he was commissioned by the Arts Council of Scotland to stage two exhibitions which toured most of the major Scottish Galleries. The works of Shakespeare were the inspiration for both exhibitions.

Since those early days, and inspired by his love of theatre and opera, Tano explored the world of set and costume design.

From artist to designer

Tano has designed many productions, including Pink Champagne for London Operetta, Little Malcolm and his struggle against the eunuchs, several Gilbert and Sullivan productions, opera productions, and four touring productions for the late Honor Blackman.

In addition to theatre work, painting, and singing, he designs sets for corporate, private and royal events.

Many of his recent works reflect his background in theatre and in particular his passion for opera.
